Project Description

The Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Good Help, in Liverpool was opened in 1887 and closed in 2011. Octo Architects were instructed to develop the existing empty space into residential accommodation. The main challenges with this project would be planning, the location in the Wavertree Conservation Area and the many issues currently faced with parking. Our solution was to divide the existing church into a modest 9-unit development and arrange parking along the frontage by removing part of the existing boundary wall that seemed to enclose the church. These moves knitted the development better into the existing context and kept much of (but not all) of the locals happy an appeased planning concern.
