Project Description
Octo Architects were appointed in 2018 to design a single storey rear extension to the existing family home in the Wavertree Garden Suburb Conservation Area. The brief was to create a flexible living space at the rear of the house linking the existing kitchen and dining room and provide a better connection to the rear.
A lengthy planning process caused a significant delay to the project which was not completed until late 2020. That planning process included an initial refusal citing the shape of the extension roof, length of the development and material selection as the key refusal reasons. However, convinced that all planning parameters had been met and that the shape of the roof added value to the Conservation Area, we launched a planning appeal. We guided the clients through the appeal process, which was eventually successful, allowing the extension to begin construction in summer 2020.
